ROCHESTER  — Police said a Rochester man and 9-year-old girl have been found dead in an apparent murder-suicide.

Rochester police said the 49-year-old man likely shot the girl before turning the gun on himself in a house Sunday afternoon. Authorities haven’t released their names. Police responded after neighbors reported hearing gunshots.

It’s unclear how the man may have been related to the girl or what caused the shootings. Police said there is no threat to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.
