Savick has brought home the bacon

Recently, the Albert Lea Education Association (teachers’ union) endorsed Rep. Shannon Savick in the race for House District 27A. Rep. Savick has been a true champion for rural schools in her time at the Legislature.

When Rep. Savick won election in 2012 and headed to the Capitol, Minnesota still owed its schools more than $800 million due to a school funding shift. In her very first term, she not only fought to make sure education was a top priority, but she also made sure that rural schools got their fair share. Thanks to her hard work, Albert Lea Schools alone received over $2.2 million in additional funding. That’s an increase of $690 per student. Other schools in District 27A such as Glenville, Alden, Blooming Prairie and Wells received comparable funding increases.

Those new resources will mean smaller class sizes and better support for our teachers and staff. They also come with new standards and improved strategies to make sure our students are working towards graduation goals that prepare them better for college or work.

It’s one thing to say that you want education to be a top priority for Minnesota. Rep. Savick has shown it! From day one, she was committed to fighting for our local schools at the State Capitol instead of shortchanging them as was done under previous Legislatures.

Our local schools are one of our most valuable assets. Thank you, Rep. Savick, for looking out for our local schools, teachers and kids. You deserve our vote Nov. 4.
