Weekend Planner: Cantori has a merry little Christmas concert

Join the Albert Lea Cantori this weekend for a holiday concert.

The Cantori will hold its annual Singing in the Season holiday concert at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The concert will be at United Methodist Church, 702 U.S. Highway 69 S.

This year’s concert will include familiar carols and new arrangements of favorites such as “Go Tell it on the Mountain,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “Patapan,” “Jingle Bells,” and “Deck the Halls” along with many others.

The 38-voice choir will be accompanied by Gail Thurnau and various community  instrumentalists.

Please note that the concert is on Saturday this year.

As always, this concert is open to the public and offerings will be taken. Eileen Nelson Ness is the director of the Cantori with singers from the Albert Lea, Wells, New Richland and Hayward area.

 

Friday

• Experience “Into the Woods” at 7:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors and $7 for adults.

 

Saturday

• Get some crafts, lefse, cookies and candy, among other things, at the Holidays Ahead Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 301 W. Clark St.

• A defensive driving refresher class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Freeborn County Historical Museum, 1031 Bridge Ave. Fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers.

• Trader Jacks Sports Card & Collectible Show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Northbridge Mall, 2510 Bridge Ave.

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Northbridge Mall, 2510 Bridge Ave.

• Enjoy a harvest feed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lunder Lutheran Church. Cost is $6, children age 5 and under are free.

• The Holiday Style Show will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at Northbridge Mall, 2510 Bridge Ave.

• Crankshaft & The Gear Grinders blues rock show will be at 7:30 p.m. at Lighthouse Event Center, 621 Marshall St. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets are available at the Albert Lea Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.

• Jack Willhite will be giving a variety show at 7:30 p.m. at the Emmons American Legion, 121 Main St., Emmons. Tickets are on sale at the Legion bar and are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

 

Sunday

• Enjoy breakfast at the Albert Lea American Legion, 142 N. Broadway, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pancakes, potatoes, scrambled eggs with or without ham, sausages, fruit cups, juice, milk or coffee will be served. Cost is $7.

• Albert Lea Civic Music brings the Jung Trio to Albert Lea. Enjoy a concert at 3 p.m. at the Albert Lea High School, 2000 Tiger Lane.
