Wellhead public meeting planned

The city of Albert Lea will hold a public informational meeting at 5:30 p.m. today to present the results of recent work to update part one of the city’s wellhead protection plan. The meeting will be held as a part of the work session for the Albert Lea City Council in the Council Chambers.

The Minnesota Department of Health requires municipalities to have a plan that outlines the steps taken to protect the sources of fresh drinking water used by the city. The presentation will include information about the vulnerability of the city’s three wells and the area the wells draw water from. The next phase of the amendment will include work to identify ways the city can protect our source water from contamination.
