MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis attorney has been convicted of stealing thousands of dollars from his firm’s employee retirement accounts.
John Bonner III of Bonner & Borhart was found guilty of theft by swindle on Friday. A criminal complaint said he swindled two employees out of more than $10,000 from March 2011 to January 2012 by withholding money from their paychecks and not depositing money into their individual retirement accounts.
The case only focused on a five-month period and just over $6,000 due to the statute of limitations. The three-year statute of limitations had run out on any possible thefts before August 2011 by the time the Hennepin County attorney’s office received the case last summer.
The St. Louis Park man will be sentenced next month.
