On March 1, 1953, she married Bob Smith in Albert Lea and moved to Greeley with her family in 1967.

While living in Greeley, Barb worked as a physician’s assistant for Ed Baldwin for over 20 years. After retirement, Barb and Bob enjoyed traveling throughout Colorado and Minnesota, and spent three years realizing their mountain-living dreams in Tabernash, Colorado. After the death of her husband on July 27, 2002, Barb remained in Greeley.

Barb was a member of the First United Church in Greeley and the Order of the Eastern Star in Albert Lea, where she held several offices. She was an avid bridge player, belonging to three bridge clubs. She was also an Evans Senior Citizens member and thoroughly enjoyed trips to Central City and Black Hawk.

Barb had a passion for cooking, knitting and caring for all the people in her life. She was an excellent caregiver and anyone who knew her would agree that time with her family was the most important thing in her life. She hosted all family celebrations, including every birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, providing the most delicious meals and memorable activities. Barb was the glue that held our family together and always found the good in each person and out of every situation.

Barb is survived by a daughter, Cindy Thompson (Patrick McMillen) of Evans, Colorado; sons Matt Smith of Greeley and Spencer Smith (Nancy) of Eagan; sister, Shirley Hewitt of Grand Marais; brother, Kenneth Prihoda (Karen) of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Smith; and daughter, Lisa Pope.

Private family services will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
