The Lake Mills wrestling team defeated a pair of North Iowa Conference foes Tuesday at home, according to a press release.
The Bulldogs defeated Belmond-Klemme 48-27 and Newman Catholic 70-12.
The opening match for Lake Mills was against Belmond-Klemme. The team picked up three pins in the dual, including Michael Olsen’s pin of Tanner Heaberlin, who pinned Olsen last season.
“The first dual tonight was kind of shaky,” said Lake Mills coach Alex Brandenburg. “There were some ups and downs, but definitely not as many ups as in the Newman dual.”
After waiting for Newman Catholic to beat Belmond-Klemme, the Bulldogs came back and wrestled a much better dual against the Knights.
Lake Mills dominated from beginning to end with eight pins.
“We were really aggressive in the dual against Newman,” Brandenburg said. “I think the kids felt they did not wrestle very well against Belmond-Klemme and wanted to finish the night better in front of the home crowd.”
With the victories, the Bulldogs improved to 24-4 on the season.
