The Albert Lea City Council voted 4-3 Monday to issue a written reprimand against the city manager in a special meeting.
The reprimand, against City Manager Chad Adams, was tied to a violation of the city’s respectful workplace policy, said City Attorney Lee Bjorndal.
By law, limited information is available to the public on personnel matters.
The councilors took the action after a closed meeting to address allegations made against Adams, Bjorndal said.
Adams said he was not present with the councilors during the closed session but was in attendance when the meeting was reopened to the public for the action of voting. He said he looks forward to talking with the council further on the issue.
“I want to move forward positively with the council, the employees in the organization and the community as a whole,” he said
Adams has served as Albert Lea’s city manager since spring 2011. Prior to that he was the city administrator in Medina.
He replaced former City Manager Jim Norman, who was convicted of misusing the city-issued credit card for personal purchases.
John Schulte V, Reid Olson, Larry Anderson and Al Brooks voted in favor of the motion.
