Tim Engstrom, 43, has been named publisher of the Fergus Falls Daily Journal and president of Fergus Falls Newspapers Inc. He has been the editor of the Albert Lea Tribune since February 2006. Before that, he was the editor of a daily in Ellensburg, Washington, for five years. He has a degree in journalism with an emphasis in magazines from Iowa State University and is a U.S. Army veteran of the Persian Gulf War.
Engstrom and his wife, Lisa, have two sons, Forrest, 7, and Jasper, 2.
“I am excited about the opportunity and looking forward to being part of the Fergus Falls community and joining the excellent group of people at The Journal,” he said.
Engstrom grew up in Iowa going to school at a small-town basketball powerhouse called Pomeroy, 30 miles west of Fort Dodge. His first job in journalism was as a reporter at the Ames Tribune for Pulitzer Prize-winning editor Michael Gartner, a former president of NBC News. Engstrom also was the editor of the student newspaper at Iowa State for a semester.
Outside of work, he is a past president of the Albert Lea Noon Kiwanis Club, has served six years on the Albert Lea Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and has coached youth baseball. He is a Minnesota Vikings fan, enjoys exercise he gets from playing disc golf and likes to play board games.
“Tim has been a great leader at the Albert Lea Tribune and in the community of Albert Lea,” said Tribune Publisher Crystal Miller. We have a great team and great plans for the future. We get to continue working with Tim as the Albert Lea Tribune and the Fergus Falls Daily Journal have a close working relationship.”
