The Freeborn County Soil Health Team is having a winter workshop on “The Economics of Soil Management” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Fairlane Building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.
The workshop will focus on soil management practices like cover crops and reduced tillage systems, their profitability and what to expect when incorporating these practices into an operation. Guest speakers will include Dave Robison, forage and cover crop product manager with Legacy Seed, and Tim Smith, a cover crop/strip-till farmer from Eagle Grove, Iowa. The afternoon portion of the day will be an informal round table discussion where guests are encouraged to stop by stations to talk with the presenters and other local producers implementing conservation practices.
