Kenneth “Ken” Eugene Chodur, 85, of Kensett died Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral service for Kenneth will be held 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran, 600 Fifth St., Kensett, with the Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Following the service at the church, military honors will be accorded by members of Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post 6779 of Northwood. Burial will be in the Kensett Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church.

Kenneth “Ken” Eugene Chodur was born on Feb. 9, 1929, the son of Andrew and Alice (Hanson) Chodur. Ken was baptized in Crystal Lake, Iowa, and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa. Ken received his education in the Crystal Lake Community Schools, graduating from Crystal Lake High School. He was inducted into the army on Oct. 3, 1950, at Ft. Des Moines and served his country honorably and faithfully until his honorable discharge on Oct. 2, 1952.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Slattum on March 21, 1953, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, Iowa. After his service to his country, Ken started farming in the Leland, Iowa, area, moving east of Northwood, before moving to the Kensett area where he farmed most of his life. Ken also did custom corn shelling, built grain bins and drove truck for Carroll George and Armours Meat Packing Company in Mason City.

Ken loved fishing, playing pool and wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona, but his great love and enjoyment was spending time with his family.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, and served on the church council.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Chodur of Kensett; children Robert (Bev) Chodur of Kensett, Laurie (Gary) Olson of Albert Lea, Kristy (Tom) Ethington of Mason City and Mark Chodur of Kensett; grandchildren Dustin (Krystal) Lennie of Albert Lea, Kim (Shawn) Thompson of Atkinson, Nebraska, Brent (Audrey) Ethington of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Matthew (Corbyn) Olson of Albert Lea, Cory Chodur and Brian Chodur of Kensett and Julie Chodur of Mason City; great-grandchildren Caleb and Genny Thompson, Brekken Olson, William Garrett and Jesse Olberg; sisters Gerry (Bill) Hart of Arizona City, Arizona and Irene (Dick) King of Seattle, Washington; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; children Mary, Randall and Allan Chodur; granddaughter, Carey Lennie; and brothers and sisters Mildred Bauer, James Chodur, Betty Kaduce, Linda Mayo, Donald Chodur, Ilene Bailey, Ralph Chodur, Delores Norcross and Odella Broome.
