MINNEAPOLIS — Another lawsuit claiming abuse by a scoutmaster has been filed against the Boy Scouts of America, a Burnsville troop and the church that sponsored it.

The latest lawsuit has been filed in Ramsey County Circuit Court on behalf of a 23-year-old man who said he was abused by Scoutmaster Peter Stibal between 2002 and 2005. Stibal was sentenced to 14 years in prison and about seven years of conditional release in 2011 for abusing Scouts. Two others who filed civil lawsuits claiming abuse by Stibal have settled out of court.

The Northern Star Council oversees scouting in central Minnesota. Spokesman Kent York said the Boy Scouts have taken many steps to ensure the safety of its participants, including screening of volunteers and training for youth members, parents and leaders.
