Norma Gavle, 1922-2015

Memorial services for Norma E. “GG” Gavle, 92, of Albert Lea will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bridge Community Church South, formerly First Baptist Church. The Rev. Clayton Balsley will officiate.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.
Norma died on Friday, January 16, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Community.
Norma Elaine Gavle was born on February 11, 1922, in Carrington, North Dakota, the daughter of E.J. Ross and Leone Engle. She grew up and went to school in North Dakota, coming to this area when she was a young woman. On May 10, 1946, Norma was married to Lloyd B. Gavle in Mason City. They were later divorced.
Norma worked at Woolworth’s and Wilsons during World War II. She worked at a restaurant named after her — Granny G’s in Lake Mills — did home care, and various clerk and waitress jobs in this area. She also worked for St. John’s for many years.
Norma was a leader for Girls Scouts and Brownies. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Audubon Society. She was an active member of First Baptist Church. Norma loved the Lord. She taught Sunday school and Bible school.
Spending time with her family was the most important thing to Norma. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, playing cards and going on trips. Galena, Illinois, was her favorite destination. Blessed be her memory.
Survivors include her daughters Cynthia (Joe) Van Reese and Deborah Olson; grandchildren Terri (Kurt) Cheever, Brian (Michelle) Olson, Jill Van Reese, Christopher Olson and Amy Olson and her fiancée Rob Redman; and great-grandchildren Brittany, Aubrey, Luke, Matthew, Caleb, Sophi, Oliver, Ruby, Stephanie and Blake.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents.
