MINNEAPOLIS — The cause of a deadly New Year’s Day fire in Minneapolis remains a mystery one year later.

Three people were killed and more than a dozen injured when the explosion and fire ripped through an apartment building in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood.

Victims said months of hospital stays and physical and psychological trauma still prevents them from resuming their normal lives.

The fire’s cause has not been determined, but a team of attorneys representing the victims continues to pore over the evidence.

Sgt. Sean McKenna of the Minneapolis Police Department’s arson unit said the cause probably was a gas leak. CenterPoint Energy says it found no gas leaks in its system.

Investigators found no evidence of foul play.
