EDINA — The Edina Public Schools district is considering a nearly $125 million referendum to pay for facility upgrades.

The school board is scheduled to vote on the proposal today. The district plans to use the money for additions to the high school and the activities center, as well as renovations to all of the existing school buildings to create “flexible learning spaces.”

The proposed referendum seeks to create more personalized learning experiences and opportunities for students rather than accommodate increasing enrollment.

This is the district’s first request for building upgrades in more than a decade. The newest of the city’s schools was built in 1972.

An election is expected to take place in May if the referendum is approved.
