DULUTH — Cirrus Aircraft said it needs a new $10 million building next to the Duluth airport to meet a growing demand for its jets.
The city of Duluth has pledged $6 million and now it wants the state to come up with the rest to help the manufacturer expand.
Mayor Don Ness wants the state to provide $4 million this legislative session. Ness said just as the Legislature stepped up for Rochester and Mayo Clinic, Duluth needs the state’s help to achieve the city’s potential in aviation.
Cirrus has added about 300 jobs in the past several years. It currently has about 600 employees in Duluth.
Cirrus said it has more than 500 orders for its $2 million Vision Jet.
