Dwight Borland, 1952-2015

Funeral services for Dwight Borland Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Eugene Stenzel and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and again one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery.
Dwight D. Borland Sr. died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at his home in Albert Lea. He was 62. Dwight was born July 20, 1952, to Anita (Vietor) and Richard Borland Sr. in Albert Lea.
Dwight went to school in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1971, where he was active in football, wrestling and track. After high school Dwight attended college at St. Cloud State University and Albert Lea Technical College where he obtained a degree in food quality control and chemistry. While attending St. Cloud State, he was drafted by the Army to fight in the Vietnam War. Dwight was honorably discharged from the Army in 1974, receiving numerous medals.
While attending Riverland Community College he met his soon-to-be wife, Susan Guenther. On Sept. 29, 1984, the two were united in marriage at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Together they made their home in Prior Lake for 23 years. In Prior Lake Dwight was active in St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the VFW and American Legion in Shakopee. Dwight spent his time working as a professional chemist doing quality control at Rahr Malting Company and Lakeside Canning. He also worked with his parents at Borland Café in Clarks Grove.
Dwight was an active member of the VFW and American Legion in Albert Lea for many years. His hobbies included watching football, going fishing and boating, and refurbishing furniture. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed being with his dog, Gunner.
Dwight is survived by his sons Jason (Rachel) Guenther of Alden and Dwight Borland Jr. (Shelly) of Lexington; grandchildren Karley, Lexi and Bella Guenther and baby Borland on the way; siblings Rebecca (Chuck) Kaye of Santa Barbara, California, Richard Borland Jr. of Edina, Timothy (Kathy) Borland of Austin, Daniel (Linda) Borland of Albert Lea, Elizabeth (Ray) Vveendenburg of Seattle, Matthew (Deb) Borland of Albert Lea, Theresa (Reid) Sunde of Waseca and Christopher (Janice) Borland of Albert Lea; parents-in-law Bob and Betty Guenther of Alden; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Borland; parents Anita and Richard Sr. Borland; and sister, Nancy Borland.
