It’s going to be an exciting next couple of days for the Albert Lea Tigers wrestling program.
The team not only qualified to compete as a team this year at the Class AA state wrestling tournament, but also qualified seven wrestlers for the individual tournament.
We couldn’t be more proud.
Competing as individuals from Albert Lea will be Zach Glazier, Garrett Aldrich, Devin Nelson, Tim Christianson, Gavin Ignaszewski, Beau Johnsrud and Triston Westerlund.
The fun kicks off Thursday morning with the start of the team tournament. The team championship is at 7 p.m.
The individual championships will be on Friday and Saturday.
We encourage anyone from Albert Lea who would be able to attend to show their support. It is sure to be a great weekend for our local athletes.
The Tribune will have Sports Editor Micah Bader and Photo Editor Colleen Harrison at the tournament to deliver the results. Look to albertleatribune.com and our Facebook page for updates.
We also wish the best of luck to our other area schools, including New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva School and United South Central School, who have a total of five state qualifiers.
Attending from NRHEG will be Dillon Kubiatowicz, Todd Erickson and Cordell Peterson. From USC will be Adam Knutson and Derek Herman.
Wrestling has always had a large following in Albert Lea, and we can see why.
Let’s get out there and show our support.
