Jean Calderon, 1938-2015

Memorial services for Jean Calderon will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Timothy Reker and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and again one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Jean Frances Calderon died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at her home in Albert Lea. She was 76.
Jean was born Sept. 30, 1938, to Eugene and Lillian McCarthy in Rochester. She was later adopted by Francis and Florence Sheehan and raised in Rochester.
On Jan. 19, 1970, Jean married Jose Avalos Calderon in Stewartville. The made their home in the Albert Lea community since 1973. Jean was a school secretary at St. Theodore Parish where she was an active church member for over 15 years. At church she taught religious education, helped with fish fries and was a lector and eucharistic minister. Jean was active in many organizations including Girl Scouts, CCW, Quill & Scroll, National Honor Society, PTA officer, Teams of Our Lady and was a den mother for Boy Scouts.
Jean is survived by her son, Mark (Nicole) Calderon, of Albert Lea; daughter, Heidi (Terry) Thomas, of Albert Lea; grandsons Addison Thomas of Albert Lea, Nathan (Sami) Calderon of Bloomington and Joseph Calderon of Albert Lea; granddaughters Brenda and Amelia Lunning; great-grandson, Koda; sister, Lillian (Marvin) Larsen, of Monroe, Washington; brother-in-law, Fernando (Elena) Calderon, of Gurnee, Illinois; and stepdaughters Monica (Paul) Schultz and family, Maria (Rito) Medina and family, and Mercedes Calderon (Mario Gutierrez).
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Jose; son, Christopher Calderon; birth parents Eugene and Lillian; adopted parents Francis and Florence Sheehan; and sister and brother-in-law Noreen and Dick Skogen.
