ST. PAUL — A 49-year-old man has pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing his former girlfriend in her St. Paul apartment in December.
Kevin Scott Evans pleaded guilty in Ramsey County court Monday to intentional second-degree murder. Sentencing is set for Feb. 13.
Public defender Jeffrey Benson said he expects that Evans will get a sentence of about 36-and-a-half years, based on his criminal history.
Evans admitted to the judge that he repeatedly stabbed Miranda Schunk, a 38-year-old mother of three, on the evening of Dec. 28 because he felt betrayed by her. She had obtained an order for protection from him only a few days before.
Evans is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He has a record that includes a murder in the 1980s.
