The Waldorf hockey team punched its ticket to the postseason, according to a press release.

The Warriors (23-8-3) are ranked No. 11 in the latest American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II Central Region poll.

Qualifying for the ACHA Division II Central Regional for the second straight season, Waldorf will face No. 4 Lindenwood (24-5-2) on Feb. 28 at Rolling Meadows, Illinois.

“I’m just happy for this team because they deserve to move on and see what they can do,” said Waldorf coach Brett Shelanski. “They’ve earned the opportunity to extend their season.”

The game time has not yet been announced for the regional opener, which will be held at West Meadows Ice Arena.

The opening-round matchup is the third meeting between the Warriors and Lions this season. Lindenwood swept the regular-season series, escaping with a 3-2 overtime victory on Feb. 6 at Wentzville, Missouri, and earning a 3-1 win the following night.

With 23 victories, the Warriors have established a new school record for wins in a season. Waldorf won a share of the Northern Collegiate Hockey League regular-season title, finishing as co-champions with Robert Morris University (18-15).

In the fourth year of program history, the Warriors are in just their third year of postseason eligibility. They have been on a hot streak as of late, winning 15 of their last 20 contests.

Waldorf enters the regional tournament fresh off an NCHL Tournament title. The Warriors scored a 3-1 win over Robert Morris in the inaugural tournament’s championship game on Sunday at Albert Lea.
