Arnold Schultz, 1920-2015

Arnold J. Schultz, 94, of Wells, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea from complications of congestive heart failure. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells. A private funeral service with military honors will be held for the immediate family and siblings of Arnold and Edith Schultz at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Dave Zuleger from Sojourners Church will be officiating the service. Interment will be in St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Wells and military honors will be accorded by the Wells Color Guard. Following the funeral and cemetery service a luncheon will be held for the immediate family and siblings at the Wells Community Center. Following the luncheon the Wells Community Center will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. to all relatives and friends who wish to join Arnold’s family to celebrate his life. Arnie was born July 22, 1920, in rural Wells, the son of August and Clara Kulla Schultz.

Arnold graduated from a small rural school located by Wells and joined the Army-Airborne Rangers by his 18th birthday. Arnold served in the Philippines during World War II and in Hiroshima during the recovery effort after Japan surrendered. Arnold married Edith Marek on Oct. 2, 1951, and enjoyed raising 10 children on their farm located between Wells and Freeborn. Arnold enjoyed 50 years of farming and 63 years of marriage with Edith.

Arnold is survived by his immediate family Leonard and Kristen Schultz of Hartland, Allan Schultz of New Richland, Jan Schultz of Dayton, Ohio, Cheryl Schultz and Jack Brackett of Longmont, Colorado, Mary and Greg Dama of Glade Spring, Virginia, John and Kris Schultz of Wells, Steve and Connie Schultz of Wells and David and Lisa Schultz of Albert Lea.

Arnold also has twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Thomas and Elizabeth Schultz, parents Leonard and Kris Schultz; Ashley and Michael Schultz, mother Jan Schultz; Miyanna Schultz-Moore (great-grandchild), parents Ashley Schultz & Chris Moore; Kristy Brackett (step-grandchild), parents Cheryl Schultz and Jack Brackett; Melissa Sather (step-grandchild), parents John and Kris Schultz; Derick, Dustin and Kendra Schultz, parents Steve and Connie Schultz; and Corbin, Cameron, and Turena Schultz, parents David and Lisa Schultz.

Arnold is survived by sisters Teresa Oelke of Blue Earth, Lorraine Horvat of Austin and Jean Ann Clarke of Lakeville, and sisters-in-law Kathy and Sharon Schultz, both of Wells, and Marie Vonholzen of Florida.

Arnold is preceded in death by parents August and Clara Schultz; wife, Edith Schultz; sons Jerry and Dale Schultz; sisters Loretta Brummer and Maxine Westrum; and brothers Jim, Mike and Marvin Schultz.
