The public is invited March 30 to learn more about the Interstate 35 construction project in Owatonna as well as the Highway 14 project east of the city, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Both projects are two-year projects entering the second year.
The I-35 project will be discussed from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at MnDOT’s office, 1010 21st Ave. N.W. in Owatonna. Later, from 7 to 8 p.m., the Highway 14 project will be discussed at the MnDOT office.
Representatives from the contractor, Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye, as well as MnDOT will be available to answer questions and provide information about the project.
This year on the $19.1 million project, northbound I-35 lanes will be closed and traffic will be crossed over to the southbound lanes on I-35, so traffic will flow both directions in single lanes. Traffic may use detours when ramps are closed during this year’s work. Overall, the project involves the replacement of four bridges and the replacement of pavement in the northbound and southbound lanes. Last year, the southbound lanes were reconstructed.
A multiyear project allows traffic to continue to flow on I-35, a key interstate highway for commerce, tourism and daily regional traffic that sees more than 34,000 vehicles daily.

The Highway 14 project is a $12 million Corridors of Commerce project from Highway 218 to Steele County Road 180. The highway is being expanded from two lanes to four lanes. Westbound lanes were constructed last year and work will shift to the eastbound lanes this year.
