Former Albert Lea basketball standout earns letter at Luther

Sydney Rehnelt, a 2014 graduate of Albert Lea High School, was presented with her first letter as a member of the Luther College basketball team May 2 at an awards banquet, according to a press release.

Rehnelt saw the majority of her action at the junior varsity level but played in 11 varsity games.

As a team, Luther posted an overall record of 23-6. The Norse captured the Iowa Conference six-team tournament championship and earned the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

The Norse defeated St. Norbert of Wisconsin 72-61 in the first round and were then defeated 60-57 by No. 2 and undefeated University of St. Thomas.

Rehnelt is the daughter of Amy and Kelvin Rehnelt of Albert Lea.

Luther College is a four-year liberal arts college in Decorah, Iowa, affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. The Norse compete in 10 men’s and nine women’s intercollegiate sports.
