Students learn about muscles in school

The 7th and 8th grade students of St. Casimir’s School in Wells, under the direction of their science teacher Joanne Tibodeau, participated in a hands on activity while dissecting chicken wings. The purpose of the project was to help students analyze how muscles, tendons and ligaments work together to help an organism move. The student’s very much enjoyed learning how muscles work in pairs and seeing how contracting the muscle in the upper wing of the chicken effected the muscle of the lower wing. Soon the classroom was filled with movement as the students demonstrated the “wing wave” with their chicken. In looking closer at the different parts of the wing, the students learned how it was actually much like their own arm. - Provided
