Support clean energy policy

As business leaders, we’re proud to be part of one of the strongest clean energy economies in the nation. Since 2000, the number of firms in our state’s clean energy economy has more than doubled, to nearly 800 businesses. Employment increased by 78 percent, providing more than 15,300 well-paying jobs as of 2014.

It’s only going to get better: Minnesota could create more than 35,000 new jobs and over $2 billion in wages over the next 15 years, if the state maximizes its clean energy potential.

We are proud of Minnesota’s leadership on both clean energy and energy efficiency. State policies have spurred the creation of businesses in research, manufacturing, transportation, construction, maintenance and many other fields. Minnesota has an abundance of natural renewable resources that, when paired with our ingenuity, will continue to reduce our reliance on importing fossil fuels into the state. Additionally, Minnesota’s focus on energy efficiency has helped thousands of business owners and homeowners see financial paybacks while conserving energy.

Minnesota has signaled that it’s open for business — the state has long advanced policies that encourage investment in and adoption of energy efficient and renewable technologies. We urge you to continue championing policies that send these clear market signals — signals that the state prioritizes efficiency and affordable energy from renewable sources, along with solutions that significantly reduce carbon emissions rates.

We recognize the Legislature is currently considering different energy plans for our state. We look forward to continuing to work to move Minnesota forward on a path to a clean energy economy.
