Funeral services for Bernice Opal Johnson, 84, of Albert Lea will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Conger. The Rev. Daphne Hamborg will officiate. Interment will be at Conger Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Bernice died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Prairie Senior Cottages.

Bernice Opal Johnson was born Oct. 12, 1930, in LeSeuer to Elmer and Ruth (Lammers) Bratsch. Bernice grew up in rural LeSeuer and graduated from LeSeuer High School. On Aug. 20, 1949, she was united in marriage to Lloyd K. Johnson at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Together they farmed near Conger for 50 years. Bernice worked as a physical therapy assistant at Naeve Hospital for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was active in Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Bernice was also a member of Polka Lovers Club of America. She enjoyed cake decorating, cooking, gardening, entertaining and dancing — especially polka. Most of all, Bernice enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children Vickie Lynch, Steven (Lamdaun) Johnson, Kathy (Lynn) Waldorf, Pamela (Edward) Puchtel and Carolyn (Bob) Kilgore; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, soon to be 11; sister, Milly Heldberg; sisters-in-law Betty Johnson and Everall Mason; brother-in-law, Daryl (Irene) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; son-in-law, Frank Lynch; and brothers Marvin, Donald and Ivan Bratsch.

Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.
