The rematch is set.

Over the past two seasons, the top baseball teams in Section 2AA have been Glencoe-Silver Lake and Albert Lea.

Last year, the Tigers won three playoff games, lost to the Panthers 5-4, rebounded with a 4-0 win shutout victory in the consolation bracket finals over Holy Family Catholic, a team ranked No. 8 in the polls for Minnesota-Scores.net’s Quality Results Formula, and fell 4-2 against Glencoe-Silver Lake in the section title game.

This year, Albert Lea coach Joe Sczublewski and the Tigers hope to turn the tables.

Albert Lea’s journey to the section championship has been similar.

After three playoff wins, the Panthers edged the Tigers 10-8 Saturday at St. Peter to send Albert Lea to the consolation bracket, where it beat Norwood Young America 7-5 to set up the rematch.

Since the postseason tournament is double elimination — and the Tigers have one playoff loss, while the Panthers are undefeated — Albert Lea will need to beat Glencoe-Silver Lake twice to secure a state berth. The Panthers will need to beat Albert Lea once.

Head to Veterans Field in St. Peter to support the Tigers as they look to take a pair from Glencoe-Silver Lake and qualify for the state tournament.
