Funeral services for Lois Hemmingsen, 88, of Alden will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate. Interment will be at the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5: to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Lois died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Community.

Lois Hemmingsen was born Sept. 5, 1926, to Fred and Elsie (Schmidt) Stiehl on a farm north of Conger where she grew up. She was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church of Pickerel Lake. Lois attended District 56 country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Alden High School in 1945. On Aug. 3, 1947, Lois was united in marriage to Bernard W. Hemmingsen at Concordia Lutheran Church. In addition to raising their five sons, she was also an entrepreneur in the Alden community. Along with her sister-in-law and good friend, she opened the Kalico Korner Craft Shop. Using her education in interior design, she worked at Helland’s Furniture. Later activities included floral design and she was well known for her teddy bear collection. She served on the board of directors of the Alden Historical Society since 1974. Lois spent many hours working with the community museum and many other volunteer jobs involving family activities. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. Lois enjoyed interior decorating, crafts and collecting antiques and teddy bears.

Survivors include her three sons, Rick (Mary) Hemmingsen of Independence, Missouri, Kevin (Terese) Hemmingsen of Wabasha and Scott (Tanya) Hemmingsen of Alden; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hemmingsen, of Owatonna; grandchildren Jennifer (Paul Conner) Hemmingsen, Chris Hemmingsen, Pat (Sarah Bredeman) Hemmingsen, Kelly (Kyle Akers) Hemmingsen, Amanda (Chuck) Hemmingsen-Jaeger, Perry (Maggie Quam) Hemmingsen, Veronica (Jim Stenstrom) Hemmingsen, Kyle Hemmingsen, Courtney (Jordan Janzig) Hemmingsen and Parker Hemmingsen; great-grandchildren Nan Baron, Henry Conner, Victoria Hemmingsen-Jaeger and Bennett Conner; goddaughter, Mary Wichmann; sister, Delores Sternhagen; sisters-in-law Phyllis Jensen and Maureen Stiehl; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard, in 1996; sons Tracy in 1988 and Craig in 2011; brothers Harvey, Russell, Marvin (Lois), Kenneth (Lucille), Veryl and Elmer Stiehl; sisters Phyliss (Don) Stephenson, Vera (Waldo) Luedtke and Lorraine (Albert) Wichmann; and four brothers-in-law.
