50 years ago: 1965
• The Laketts from Albert Lea defeated Mason City 9-1 in a fastpitch softball game. Diane Schroeder was the winning pitcher, and Jan Larson hit a grand slam for the Laketts. In their second game of the week, the Laketts defeated Northwood 18-2 with Candy Jorgenson picking up the win. Jorgenson and Jane Christensen each had two hits for the Laketts.
• Scotsman won 16-4 over Clarks Grove in the Albert Lea Slowpitch League. Bob Utter was the winning pitcher. Chuck Anderson had two triples, and Ron Godtland and Doug Cipra two hits each for Scotsman.
• Neal Skaar and Clayton Peterson both had two hits for Hayward in a 19-7 victory over Oakland during an Albert Lea Church League softball game. Bruce Olson homered for Hayward. In a second Church League game, Christian Reformed defeated Baptist 14-11. Winning pitcher Ralph Randall had four hits, as did Elvin Steensma.
25 years ago: 1990
• The Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team raised its season record to 4-0 after defeating Mankato 7-6. Ryan Rasmussen was the winning pitcher.
• The Albert Lea Colonels baseball team defeated St. James 14-4 behind two home runs by Joe Sczublewski.
• Steve Brigger, Aric Knutson and Steve VanMaldeghem each had two hits for the Albert Lea VFW baseball team. Bryon Carlson pitched the win.
10 years ago: 2005
• Desiree Bud of Albert Lea was the winner in the 27th annual Fountain Lake 5 with a time of 27:12.
• Dan Breuer of Albert Lea and a student at Riverland College finished in eighth place at the NJCAA Division III National Golf Championship and earned All-American honors.
• The Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team defeated Byron 13-9. Alex Hansen reached first all five times at the plate for Glenville-Emmons.
• Named to the Big Nine All-Conference girls’ golf team from Albert Lea were Kelli Hanson and Kaeli Wayne.
