50 years ago: 1965
• Hayward defeated Glenville 15-7 in a State Line Amateur League baseball game. Ed Stalker was the winning pitcher, and Junior Torres and Bruce Olson each had two hits for Hayward.
• Wells High School won the District 5 baseball title with an 8-2 victory over Truman. Jerry Moja was the winning pitcher. Larry Sonnek had three hits and two RBIs for the Wildcats.
• In slow-pitch softball, Schmidt’s-Elbow Room defeated Almco 23-6. Schmidt’s was led by Rog Mangskau was 4-for-4 with a grand slam. Bob Winjum hit two home runs for Schmidt’s. In the second game, the Eagles defeated Scotsman 8-7. Bob Appel had three hits for the Eagles, and Ron Godtland was 4-for-4 for Scotsman.
25 years ago: 1990
• Glenville-Emmons won the District 2A baseball title with a 10-0 victory over Lyle. Winning pitcher Jamie Beck threw a two-hitter and had 11 strikeouts. Dan Follmuth had three hits for the Wolverines.
• Albert Lea graduate Brad Tullberg of the College of St. Scholastica was named to the Upper Midwest All-Conference baseball team.
• Junior Chad Bohonek of Albert Lea won the 200-meter dash at the Region 1A track meet and advanced to the Minnesota state track meet. Junior Laura Olsen of Albert Lea placed second in the high jump and also advanced to state.
• The Albert Lea Colonels baseball team opened its season with a 4-2 win over Waseca. Dan Lee, Jamie Beck and Wes Tennis each had two hits for the Colonels.
10 years ago: 2005
• In the first round of Section 2AA baseball, United South Central defeated Le Sueur-Henderson 1-0 with Adam Schrader the winning pitcher. USC defeated St. James 5-2 in a second round game. Schrader hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning for the win.
• In Section 2 Class A softball, Glenville-Emmons defeated Madelia/Truman 7-6 in 10 innings. Winning pitcher Lindsey Lorenzen had 12 strikeouts.
