ROSEVILLE — The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Roseville said it’s handling a record number of animals this year.

Executive director Phil Jenni said the center is getting more than 100 new patients every day. It’s the time of year when baby robins, rabbits and even an occasional fawn might be found in someone’s backyard.

Veterinarian Renee Schott said many of the animals perceived to be abandoned should be left in the wild. Schott said the babies would have a much better chance with their mother than in rehabilitation. She said the center has about 1,500 more patients compared to the same time last year.

Jenni said the goal with every animal that’s brought in to the center is to rehabilitate them and release them back to their natural environment.
