The gym at Lake Mills High School will be rocking with ’50s and ’60s music once again at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Nate and the Moonlighters are reuniting to benefit the Lake Mills Area Historical Society with their fundraising efforts.
After organizing in Lake Mills in 2001 around a talented freshman named Nate Sletten, the group included his pastor, superintendent, principal, a mortician, teachers and other local talents to create a ’50s and ’60s band with vocalists. During the next few years, Nate and the Moonlighters played in the area many times, always contributing their gate to local causes. To date they have donated over $72,000 to various causes. Even as Nate graduated and moved on to college, the group was able to play during the year at various local events, including four appearances at the Surf Ballroom. By 2006 half of the members moved away from Lake Mills which made it more difficult to perform. Their last appearance in the area was in 2010. However, they are eager to fire up their instruments and voice for a good cause.
Current members are vocalists Daryl Sherman, Jim Scholbrock and Bruce Adams and instrumentalists John Butz, Mark Timmerman, Nate Sletten, Tony Brezina and Bill Georgia.
The Lake Mills Area Historical Society is looking forward to hearing them play and sing once again and invite the public to join them for a fun in the high school gym. Tickets at the door are $10 with $5 tickets available for children in grades kindergarten to sixth grade.
