Hey! My name is Sam Wilmes. I have joined the Albert Lea Tribune as a government and crime writer. I am a 23-year-old journalist from West Concord. I was previously a news writer at the Watertown Public Opinion in Watertown, South Dakota, where I covered the county commission and the local crime b
eat.
I am a 2014 Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate. I was the news editor at The Reporter, MNSU’s college newspaper. I have always been interested in writing. The first day I was on campus, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. Working at the school newspaper and learning about all of the different aspects of not only campus life, but life in general, reinforced what I wanted to do.
Getting to the bottom of the story and writing balanced, informative and accurate information are my top priorities.
I look forward to covering the local community and getting to know the people who make the community great. I am also excited about being closer to friends and family.
In my spare time I enjoy walking around Fountain Lake, watching sports, relaxing and reading up on current events.
