ROCHESTER — Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders is making a second stop in Minnesota.
The Vermont senator was set to host a town hall meeting and fundraiser in Rochester today. It follows a May visit to Minneapolis that drew more than 3,000 attendees.
Sanders is courting liberal voters in Democrat stronghold states as he seeks to challenge front runner Hillary Rodham Clinton. His attention to Minnesota shows he’s not just favoring the typical early voting states like New Hampshire and Iowa.
The self-described Democratic socialist is betting that a campaign built around tackling income inequality and other populist messages can overwhelm Clinton. Though the Clinton is still the favorite, Sanders has been gaining in recent early polling.
