The Albert Lea Community Theatre announces auditions will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 24 and Aug. 25, for “Calendar Girls” at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N. Broadway in Albert Lea.
Directed by Steven Kinney, eight performances of this delightful comedy are scheduled for Oct. 8 through Oct. 17. There are roles for four men and nine women — age 30 is not too young and 70 is not too old. There will be no nudity in this show. Those auditioning should be prepared to read from the script provided that evening. Rehearsals will be scheduled weeknights, with some weekend involvement closer to the performance dates.
Written by Tim Firth, “Calendar Girls” is an uplifting, feel-good story of friendship, ingenuity and triumph. The comedy is based on an inspiring true story from England and adapted from the Golden Globe-nominated motion picture. When Annie’s husband, John, dies of leukemia, she and best friend, Chris, resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow Women’s Institute members to pose “nude” with them for an alternative calendar.
More information on auditions can be found at actonbroadway.com. Season tickets for ACT’s 51st season can be purchased online or at the box office, which is open from 4 to 6 p.m. every Thursday. ACT has pledged 10 percent of the ticket proceeds from “Calendar Girls” will benefit the Cancer Center at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.
