Albert Lea volleyball falls on road

Nonconference road matches have been unfriendly to the Albert Lea volleyball team.

The Tigers (0-3, 0-0 Big Nine) suffered their third consecutive 3-0 sweep Thursday at Apple Valley (2-0, 0-0 South Suburban).

The Eagles won 25-20, 25-20 and 25-8.

Albert Lea’s defense was led by Camryn Keyeski and Bethany Tennis, who combined for 39 of the team’s 60 digs, said Tigers coach Jamie Cameron.

Julia Deyak and Sarah DeHaan led Albert Lea at the net with four blocks each.

Offensively, Julia Deyak posted a team-high seven kills. Paige Landsman led the Tigers with 10 assists.

After a five-point loss in Game 1, Albert Lea rallied from a 12-point deficit in Game 2. Although the Tigers cut Apple Valley’s lead to four points, the Eagles held on, Cameron said.

Next, Albert Lea will play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Burnsville.

The Tigers’ home opener will be against Austin at 7 p.m. next Thursday.
