ST. PAUL — Former U.S. Senate candidate Mike McFadden said he won’t run for Congress.
McFadden was one of several Republican contenders weighing a bid to replace Rep. John Kline, who announced his plans to retire this month. McFadden is a longtime investment banker who proved an able fundraiser in a loss to Sen. Al Franken in last year’s election.
But he said Monday he decided against running for the 2nd Congressional District. He said he’s keeping his focus on education as a board member at two Twin Cities schools geared toward minority students.
Two Democrats and one Republican already have campaigns up and running in a field that may expand.
