National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 469
National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 469 had a meeting on Aug. 11 at Pizza Ranch in Albert Lea. Lilah Aas from Albert Lea shared her experiences as a participant in the annual 500-mile bike ride to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. She began riding in 1997 and has raised a substantial amount of money for Habitat over the years. A legislative report was given informing us of several bills being discussed in Congress. Protective services being offered to those affected by hacking were discussed. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 13 at Pizza Ranch in Austin.
American Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 56 met at 7 p.m. Sept. 2 in the club dining room. A hand salute was given to the colors which had already been posted, the chaplain offered prayer, a moment of silence was offered in memory of the group’s deceased, Pledge of Allegiance was said and one stanza of the national anthem was sung. The preamble to the American Legion Auxiliary was recited by all in attendance.
Secretary Ange Larson called the roll and gave her report on the June meeting. The treasurer, Deanne Adams, gave her report. The reports were approved.
Committee reports were given by Karen Cibert, child and youth chairman. She hosted a contest for the one who could come closest to the amount of school items which were collected and their dollar amount. Betty Anderson guessed the closest to the number and Larson guessed the closest to the dollar amount. Actual items collected were 338 and the items were a total value of $981.75. She is also going to collect healthy snacks for schools. Members are asked to bring them to the club and place them in the box in the hallway.
Anderson, national security chairman, asked us to continue saving coupons that are sent to military bases.
Executive recommendations were approved as follows: Veteran’s Affairs Gift Shop, Operation Military Kids, $5 Bill Shower, Forgotten Kids and Karen Cibert for supplies and printing.
The chaplain offered the closing prayer.
They group sang a verse of God Bless America.
Lunch was served by Bonnie Schneider and Lucille Grippentrog.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 4.
