The Albert Lea High School Music Department will present its first concert of the year on Tuesday. The concert will be at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. This year there will be two different concerts to accommodate the growing music program and the large crowd. The concert at 6 p.m. will feature the ALHS Tiger Orchestra, the Tiger Women’s Choir and the Tiger Mixed Choir. The concert at 8 p.m. will be the Symphony Orchestra, Varsity Choir and Concert Choir. The orchestras are directed by Rebekah Crissinger and the choirs by Mary Bissen and Diane Heaney.
According to a press release, the Tiger and Symphony Orchestra will perform a variety of pieces including a fiddle tune guaranteed to get your toes tapping titled, “North Country Hoedown,” and a beautiful string arrangement of Pergolese’s “Nina.”
All four choirs will perform both secular and sacred works. Tiger Women’s Choir will perform the nursery rhyme “Fiddle-I-Fee” accompanied by Rebekah Crissinger on the fiddle. They will end their set with the timeless classic “Lean on Me.” Tiger Mixed Choir students will sing several styles including a Renaissance piece with drum and recorder and an African call and response piece. Varsity Choir will sing the American classic, “Shenandoah”, and a new piece for women entitled “Lineage.” Concert Choir students will open with “Gather at the River,” sing “Exultate justi,” “Sing Me to Heaven” and a piece by Stephen Paulus entitled “Hymn to the Eternal Flame.” As the finale the Concert Choir will perform “The Awakening” by Joseph Martin with the chamber strings and added winds.
Tickets for the concert are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students and are available at the door. Family music concert passes will also be available.
