The West Fork football team defeated Lake Mills 32-15 Friday at Lake Mills.

After a scoreless first quarter for both teams, the Bulldogs were the first to score in the second quarter. Slade Sifuentes caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cael Boehmer, after which Grant Fjelstad ran in the two-point conversion.

Later in the second quarter, Grant Boehmer caught a five-yard pass from Cael Boehmer to give the Bulldogs a 15-0 lead. The Warhawks answered with one touchdown in the second quarter to trail the Bulldogs 15-6 at halftime.

“We came out strong and executed well the first half,” said Lake Mills coach Bill Byrnes.

Lake Mills’ lead was short lived, as the team didn’t score again for the rest of the game.

West Fork came back to score 13 points in the third quarter and another 13 in the fourth, all of which went unanswered by the home team.

“We did not have an answer defensively in the second half,” said Byrnes. “Offensively we played OK, but poor field position in the second half really hurt.”

Max Bergo led the Bulldogs rushing attack with a total of 70 yards on 15 carries. Fjelstad was a close second with 60 yards, also on 15 carries.

Cael Boehmer completed 14 of 34 passes for 151 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Grant Boehmer caught six passes for 70 receiving yards and a touchdown. Sifuentes racked up 32 yards and a touchdown on three receptions. Bergo contributed 24 yards on his one reception.

Bergo was also a presence on defense with eight tackles, coming in second to teammate Zach Throne’s 12 tackles of the night.

Next, Lake Mills (1-7, 1-4 Class 1A District 3) will play its last regular-season game at 7 p.m. Friday at Emmetsburg (4-4, 3-2 Class 1A District 3). Emmetsburg is coming off a 35-7 loss Friday at Pocahontas Area.

Last year, Emmetsburg won 62-38 at Lake Mills.
