The Albert Lea City Council passed assessments for the 2015 neighborhood improvement and Lakeview Boulevard projects Monday night.

Assessments for both projects must be paid back in 10 years at 4.52 percent interest.

The neighborhood improvement project includes construction on College Street, Court Street, Mill Street, Washington Avenue and Oline Drive.

The Lakeview Boulevard project involves the complete reconstruction of Lakeview Boulevard from Abbott Street to Wedge Street and from Sunset Street to Wedge Street.

Second Ward Councilor Larry Baker said more cognizance is needed in future city street projects.

“The way this project started and the way it turned out, I think in the future we need to be more cognizant of those who live on these streets,” Baker said.

He said he wanted to make sure lawns are either as good or better as they were before the projects started and advised any constituents to call him.

The city’s goal is to have Lakeview Boulevard open for traffic in a couple weeks, City Engineer Steven Jahnke said Monday night.

The two assessments were tabled Oct. 12.
