We applaud Albert Lea city officials who are finding new ways to reach out to residents.

A few weeks ago, the city began a weekly e-newsletter to give people information about city projects and other events happening. The newsletter comes as city leaders also focus efforts on increasing their Facebook audience, and the city manager and assistant city manager are going door to door to get input in the 5th Ward.

This is a good sign that the city is attempting to reach out to residents, both young and old, as well as to invite citizen participation.

We appreciate the effort to reach out and educate more people. We think most people will welcome the opportunity.

On the same note of educating people, we encourage people to turn to the Tribune on Tuesdays after the Albert Lea City Council meetings and throughout the week to find out more about city happenings. The Tribune takes its role as a watchdog seriously and strives to cover all sides of an issue.

When it all boils down to it, city matters affect us all, and the more residents know about what is happening, the better.
