An Ellendale man was taken to Owatonna Hospital after a crash Thursday morning in Steele County.

A Chevy Impala driven by Joseph A. Brookins, 67, was heading north on Interstate 35, just south of mile marker 37, three miles south of the U.S. Highway 14 exit, when the vehicle ran off the road and struck a guardrail near Steele County Road 31, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Brookins’ injury was deemed non-life-threatening.

The crash was possibly due to a medical situation.

Brookins was reportedly wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol wasn’t detected in his system.
