Governor orders flags to be flown at half-staff

In honor and remembrance of Deputy Steven Sandberg, who was killed in the line of duty on Oct. 18, Gov. Mark Dayton has ordered all United States and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset today, according to a press release.

Sandberg honorably served the people of Aitkin County for 24 years as a member of the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office and courageously volunteered as a firefighter with the Aitkin Fire Department for 17 years. Sandberg was regarded as a good neighbor and an active member of his church, and he will be missed by his family, colleagues, and friends.

According to a press release, the state of Minnesota, with its deepest gratitude, recognizes Sandberg for his dedicated service to, and sacrifice for, his fellow citizens of Minnesota.

A celebration of Sandberg’s life was at 11 a.m. this morning at Aitkin High School in Aitkin.

At the direction of the Governor, Minnesota flies its flags at half-staff following the death of Minnesota police officers killed in the line of duty on the day of interment.
