MINNEAPOLIS — Fans may have to wait another two years before they can pose again with the Mary Tyler Moore statue in downtown Minneapolis.

The bronze, hat-tossing sculpture of the star of the 1970s sitcom was removed with other public art along Nicollet Mall this summer during the street’s $50 million renovation.

Plans to temporarily move the statue inside the IDS Center’s Crystal Court were quashed when building officials failed to reach an agreement with TV Land, which owns the sculpture.

The statue now sits in a storage facility. According to a press release, TV Land spokeswoman Jennifer Zaldivar-Clark expects the figure to be returned to once the project is completed in the summer of 2017.

The “Mary Tyler Moore Show” was set in Minneapolis, where Moore played a local TV news producer.
