Progress numbers were inaccurate

To everyone who actually reads the Albert Lea Tribune’s Progress edition:

There were a couple of important (at least to me) details printed in the Progress edition that were false.

First, there are actually three roads coming into Freeborn. Freeborn County Road 10 comes into town from the north from Hartland and New Richland. It runs right into the heart of Freeborn. There is also County Road 6 coming up from the south from Alden. Both No. 10 and No. 6 intersect with County Road 29 which runs east and west through the entire town from Wells to State Highway 13 to Albert Lea. And they are all paved even! Where did this “Roads none” come from? I know we are far to the north part of Freeborn County, but we are still well within civilization!

Second, and this one is even more false as this subject has been addressed to the Tribune at least once before, the Freeborn School District was one of six school districts that combined to become United South Central, what, 25 years ago. It was listed correctly for Bricelyn and Kiester, whoops, I must have missed Walters; and, of course, Wells-Easton. We actually still have the old building, but it is no longer used. So, where did “School none” come from? Freeborn has had a school in town since 1858, with various buildings between that date and when the present building was built in 1922. Now Freeborn is part of the new district No. 2134, with a brand-new building in Wells. Children in the “old” Freeborn district attend No. 2134 unless they are open enrolled in a different school district and their parents still pay taxes to the new district of No. 21234.

So, yes, Virginia; there are roads into Freeborn and Freeborn does have a designated school district.
