Working towards a goal is often more satisfying and enjoyable when it is a group effort. With this thought in mind, the students, faculty and friends of St. Casimir’s School in Wells participated in the annual Knights of Columbus Marathon for Nonpublic Education which took place on Oct. 2.  This event enables those who support and advocate nonpublic education to make a public demonstration of their belief and involvement.

In participating in this fundraising event, the students obtained donation pledges from sponsors prior to the marathon. The funds raised through this event go directly to the school to benefit all students through school assembly programs, field trips, computer software, individual classroom needs and many other needed items.

According to Joanne Tibodeau, the school’s principal, the marathon was a wonderful blend of enjoying the beautiful fall weather, having fun while raising needed school funds and spending time with family and friends. Gathering in front of St. Casimir’s School, the participants paraded through downtown Wells and on to Half Moon Park from which they walked or jogged as many laps around the park as possible. Following the last lap, Knights of Columbus members Harold Goeden and Tom Schindler awarded door prizes to the student body.

Tibodeau said many thanks go to the Knights of Columbus and the local towns for their combined efforts in supporting nonpublic education. As the only parochial school in Faribault County, St. Casimir’s School makes a real contribution to the total community.
