MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota’s Joey King has been named the Big Ten’s Co-Player of the Week.
The conference announced the awards Monday. King shared the honor, the first of his career, with Northwestern’s Alex Olah. The last Gophers player to win the award was Andre Hollins, last December.
King scored a career-high 22 points on six 3-pointers for the Gophers in the season-opening victory Friday over Missouri-Kansas City. The senior power forward scored 20 points Sunday in the win over Louisiana-Monroe, going 9 for 10 from the free-throw line.
The Gophers play Temple Thursday in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament. They’ll play three games there.
