Commissioner injured in collision

A Freeborn County official was injured after being struck by a car Monday morning in the Walmart parking lot.

Mike Lee, chairman of the Freeborn County Board of Commissioners, was reportedly walking through the parking lot when he was struck by the car on the right side of his body and knocked to the ground by a car that was backing out of a parking spot. He landed on his left side.

Lee thanked people who came up to him and helped him after the collision.

Lee said he sustained bruises to the right side of his body, a scraped knee to his left side and a small bruise to his lung. He described his injuries as not life-threatening but expressed concern over the bruise to his lung.

He described the incident as an accident and said the incident occurred between 10:30 and 10:45 a.m.

Lee’s wife, Renee, took him to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea, and he was later released at around 5:30 p.m.

Lee said he’s a little sore but is feeling better and was reportedly snowblowing Tuesday morning.
